Stomp Out Diabetes 5K Run

Day No. 35: I found out about the Leon County School's Stomp Out Type 2 Diabetes run last week, and was debating about running it. I obviously chose to run it, knowing I would have to drive to Orlando immediately after the race. This weeks race I was determined no to hold back, and I was very happy with the outcome. I was runner 127 as you can see on my bib number. Today's race was a 5K run around Tom Brown Park. It was actually a lot of fun. The first two miles were on a bike path, and the third mile was in woodland trails. I finished with a time of 24 minutes and 43 seconds. That is an average pace of 7 minutes and 58 seconds per mile. I finished 26th out of 217 runners. This was a huge leap since last week.

Update Since The Flash 12K

Update from the Flash 12K Run: I was looking at my Nike Shoe Sensor today, and I had realized that the sensor was loose, so I believe that I was wrong. I only ran a 12K run at a pace of 8 minutes and 44 seconds per mile. I am still happy with the results. It was my first race, and it was not just an easy race.

25 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.0 Miles / 34 Minutes 49 Seconds
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 121.4 Miles

Day No. 34: I took a few days off this week to recover from Sunday's race and decided to just run a 4-mile run. I ran at a pace of 8 minutes and 25 seconds.

The Flash 12K Run - My First Race

Day No. 33: Today was race day. I was racer 6679. It was an amazing day, and I am proud of myself. I finished my first of many races to come. I was not the fastest and I was not the slowest, but I was somewhere in the middle. Out of the 176 runners, I placed 96. The race was a 12K race which was ruffly 7.5 miles, but there was some discrepancies with people's individual tracking devices. My Nike sensor told me I ran 8.19 miles. I tend to believe it as it has been accurate to date. Either way I finished. My time was 1 hour 5 minutes and 14 seconds which made my overall pace 8 minutes and four seconds per mile (according to my shoe sensor) or 8 minutes and forty-four seconds (according to the website). Either way I was happy that it was under nine minutes.Today started off extremely cold. I believe it was 37 degrees and when the race ended for my a little over an hour the temperature rose to 55 degrees. The first three miles were a breeze, but it wasn't until my 6th mile that I began to slow a bit. The run was along St. Marks Trail (a local trail) which consisted of many trees and little scenery. I was excited to see that a local photographer took pictures of the race, so I at least have a picture memory of the race. Below are three great action pics of me and one of Jules running our little butts off.

One More Practice Before The First Race

18 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.5 Miles / 24:24 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 109.2 Miles

Day No. 32: I wanted to get one more run in before my big race on Saturday. I figured I would run a 4.5 mile run and take Friday off. I took the run nice and easy to make sure I did not kill my ankle before the race. Only two days left...

100 Mile-stone

14 February 2010
Miles Ran: 6.5 Miles / 57:00 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 104.7 Miles

Day No. 31: 100 MILES!!! It is a milestone for two reasons. First, is the 100 mile mark. I am just excited for myself for running that much. Second, is the fact that I have run 6.5 miles under an hour. I just assumed that as I run further, my pace would slow down. I decided to free run without a running plan. I seemed more engaged without knowing where I was going to run, but the con of this was finishing my run over a mile away from my house. It was a bit longer of a walk home.

What Happened To February?

February has been an exciting and challenging month so far. It is almost time for my 12K run, and my training has been interfered with by all the germs my kids have passed onto me. Being a teacher means YOU WILL GET SICK. There is no question about it.

02 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.5 Miles / 43 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 67.2 Miles

Day No. 23: Today was my first 4.5 mile run. I actually enjoyed this run far more then I did my 4.0 mile run. I felt a lot more of a challenge by adding two additional hills to the run. I felt it was a good start to a new month. I will switch between 4.0 and 4.5 in the next few weeks.

03 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.0 Miles / 37 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 71.2 Miles

Day No. 24: Today was a quick 4 mile run. Nothing too exciting to report.

04 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.5 Miles / 40 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 75.7 Miles

Day No. 25: I have run 75 miles thus far. I was amazed by this. If someone had told me in the beginning of December that I would be running starting at the end of the month, I would have looked at them like they were crazy. Thus far, this has been one of the best experiences I have had. Here's to the next 75 miles....

06 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.5 Miles / 43 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 80.2 Miles

Day No. 26: Two weeks to my first race: The Flash 12K.

07 February 2010
Miles Ran: 5.5 Miles / 53 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 85.7 Miles

Day No. 27: It was a day of technical difficulties. My mp3 player was on the fritz, and kept shutting down, my ankle was killing me, I hit every traffic light along my run, but I ran 5.5 miles. It may not have been my fastest pace, but I completed it. After my run, I broke down and went to Best Buy and bought an iPod Nano for running. I also picked up the Nike+iPod sensor kit. I cannot wait to test it out tomorrow.

09 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.0 Miles / 35:55 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 89.7 Miles

Day No. 28: Today was not really about the run, but playing with my iPod and the Nike+iPod sensor. I absolutely loved it. It kept track of my time, distance, and pace and allowed me to hear it with a press of a button. It was pretty cool....

11 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.5 Miles / 43 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 94.2 Miles

Day No. 29: I ran today, but messed up saving my run data on the iPod. I am still learning all the tricks to it. It was a bit frustrating to run all that way and mess up saving the data at the end. Other then that, it was a fairly regular run.

13 February 2010
Miles Ran: 4.0 Miles / 36:22 Minutes
Run Disney Project Total Miles: 98.2 Miles

Day No. 30: Yesterday was an incredible stormy day. I was pleased that the weather cleared up so I could run today. I figured out what I did wrong with saving my data on my iPod, but unfortunately it was after I made the same mistake. I am excited and a bit nervous that next week is the big day, The Flash 12K. Tomorrow I will be running 6.5 miles. I am excited about this run because it proves that I can at least run a 10K (6.2 miles) race. I will be running a 10K next month at Springtime Tallahassee.
